KDW Cares Black History Day honors the achievements of Thomas Patton Miller, known as Tom Miller, a prominent Baltimore artist celebrated for his "Afro-Deco" painted furniture. Born in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood, he attended Carver Vocational Technical High School. In 1963, Miller was awarded a scholarship to the Maryland Institute College of Art.
