WORDS MATTER - A Literacy Program for Middle & High School Students
Words Matter is a program designed to enhance literacy beyond the standardized general curriculum. The program exposes students, from the middle to high school age range, to various genres of literature while exploring their own interpretation of what they are reading. Words Matter promotes multi-cultural diversity, self and community awareness, and encouragement of learners to think critically while making real world connections.
Words Matter aims to enrich the minds of all learners and increase their comprehension level. Our vision is to ensure that all learners from the Baltimore metropolitan area, regardless of background, can be transparent through the expressions of their authentic feelings. The connection between the text covered and the lives of the students is evident through the interpretation of the literature covered. The sessions for Words Matter are once per month on a chosen Saturday and run from 12 pm – 3 pm.
